CESA 10, in collaboration with post-secondary, economic development and workforce partners, is committed to attracting and retaining high-quality teachers in Career and Technical Education (CTE). Helping school districts recruit and retain high-quality CTE educators ensures students in our communities engage in CTE courses and learn critical workplace skills.
Over the past fifteen years, there has been a significant decline in the number of individuals pursuing CTE teaching licenses in the state. We are currently at a critical shortage of qualified CTE teachers, which means programs are understaffed and courses across CTE disciplines are not being offered.
This supply and demand issue directly impacts business and industry. Without quality CTE programming, students are not provided opportunities to explore hands-on CTE courses, develop an interest in occupations related to the coursework, or pursue post-secondary training or occupations in high demand business and industry fields.
CTE 10 is a scholarship program to help students who are interested in pursuing a degree to teach career and technical education. The intent of the program is to offset the cost of post-secondary training for these students. By doing so, CTE-10 intends to build a robust pipeline of qualified employees in our regional workforce.
Low Return on Investment - Individuals considering pursuing a CTE teacher license choose a different profession after comparing costs of post-secondary education and the rate of pay for beginning teachers.
High Demand for Skills in Other Career Pathways - Employers outside of education recognize individuals with Career & Technical Education expertise are highly valued employees. Licensed CTE teachers are leaving the profession for higher wages.
This workforce initiative is comprised of a ten-county geographic region. Counties included in the CTE-10 region are Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Rusk, Taylor and Trempealeau.
